The BSC International Summer School provides a high-quality, safe and well-structured residential programme designed to help young learners build confidence in English while enjoying an enriching international experience. Located on the impressive Bishop’s Stortford College campus, the programme blends strong academics, excellent pastoral care and a wide variety of activities in an environment parents can trust.
At the heart of the programme is accredited English-language teaching. Students receive 15 hours of lessons per week delivered by EngXcel, a British Council-accredited provider. This ensures professional teaching standards, qualified instructors and modern methods that help students truly improve their communication skills. Lessons are interactive, supportive and level-appropriate, with small class sizes that allow teachers to offer individual feedback and encouragement.
Beyond English classes, students can choose from several academic and enrichment pathways, including Creative Arts, Performing Arts, Sports Coaching and a broad Multi-Activity programme. These sessions are led by experienced coaches and tutors, giving students the chance to explore interests, develop new talents and grow in confidence — far beyond what typical language camps offer.
The weekly schedule is busy, enjoyable and balanced. Mornings focus on English lessons; afternoons are dedicated to specialist Academies or activity sessions; and evenings feature organised social events such as discos, quizzes, tournaments, movie nights and team-building games. Each week includes two excursions: a half-day trip (often to Cambridge) and a full-day excursion to major destinations such as London or Canterbury, plus an additional full-day visit to Oxford during the stay. All trips are supervised and educational, giving students a safe introduction to British culture.
Accommodation and welfare are central to the school’s approach. Students stay in comfortable on-site boarding houses with staff living in residence to provide 24/7 supervision and pastoral support. Clear routines, safeguarding measures and access to medical care further reinforce a secure environment where children feel supported.
