South of England
Course Information
About This Course
Academic Camp Bristol is the flagship summer programme, offering a distinctive and enriching educational experience in a safe and inspiring environment. Set within the scenic Mendip Hills and hosted at Sidcot School, a traditional British boarding school, the camp combines academic excellence with outdoor adventure, leadership development, and cultural exploration.
The programme is designed for students aged 7–17 and follows a holistic educational philosophy. Teaching is underpinned by the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach, which integrates subject learning with language development. Through CLIL, students strengthen content knowledge while developing cognition, communication skills, and cultural awareness. This methodology supports learners in using English confidently as both an academic and international language, regardless of whether they are native or non-native speakers.
Academic pathways are tailored by age group. Adventurers (ages 7–10) learn through play, discovery, and curiosity-led activities in a fully supervised environment. Pathfinders (ages 11–12) are supported as they transition into more structured learning, building confidence, independence, and teamwork. Explorers (ages 13–14) follow a dynamic, cross-curricular programme that prepares them for GCSE, IGCSE, or MYP studies, developing critical thinking and global perspectives. Engagers (ages 15–17) focus on subject specialisation, preparing for IB and A Levels while refining academic English, presentation skills, and essay writing.
Classes are taught in small groups by experienced teachers, ensuring personalised attention and active participation. Students select subjects aligned with their interests, alongside enrichment activities that support communication, wellbeing, and creativity.
Leadership development is an integral part of the programme through the “Be a Leader” course. This two-week experience blends leadership training with practical application, allowing students to develop skills such as communication, negotiation, teamwork, and confidence. Activities include outdoor challenges, collaborative projects, and reflective assessments, supporting personal growth and self-awareness in an engaging and supportive setting.
Beyond academics, the camp offers extensive sports facilities, outdoor and enrichment activities. Horse riding is available as an extra, with access to on-campus stables and professional instruction, suitable for beginners and experienced riders alike. Students may also take part in bushcraft, orienteering, team sports, and creative challenges, promoting resilience and physical wellbeing.
Accommodation is provided in comfortable on-campus boarding houses, with students placed according to age and language level to encourage friendships and cultural exchange. With round-the-clock supervision, nutritious meals, and modern facilities, Academic Camp Bristol provides a secure and nurturing environment.
