ICS is a famous IB school located in central London and offering year round academic courses. They have been running summer schools since 1979.

The English School Experience is a topic based course with a different topic each week throughout the summer which means that children will not repeat the same lesson or excursion no matter when they arrive and how long they stay. Children age 5+ will have an excursion once a week within school hours, connected to the topic they discuss during that particular week.

The youngest children are taught at the ICS Primary School , close to Baker Street Tube Station. For nursery aged children, age 3-4, the focus is on creative and play-based learning and the development of communication and social skills. As well as using song, dance, art and construction, children also use drama and music sessions to improve language skills.

Learners from 5-6 years old are encouraged to work collaboratively through project-led activities. New information is researched by using books, computers and iPads to improve language and communication skills.

Older children, age 8-9, take part in exciting discovery-led activities, with a focus on communication skills such as reading and writing. Lessons and activities are linked to a weekly project.

Students age 10-17 are based at the ICS Secondary School near Paddington Station. Learners build confidence and competence through projects and focused lessons, which include worksheets, questionnaires and research tasks.

Sidcot School - Academic Juniors

Academic Juniors

Academic Juniors is ideal for children who want an academic programme where they can learn a range of different subjects. It is suitable for learners of English as well as those who are already fluent or native speakers. Lessons are very cross-curricular. This means that students in a history lesson may also be developing their skills in drama, design technology and geography. What is really great about this approach is that it allows students to put their learning into practice and to use their strengths in one area to support themselves- and others- in an area they are less confident in.

One of the special things about our junior programme at Sidcot School is the integration with local children. Sidcot run a holiday club called Shipmates for local UK families. Academic Juniors share many joint activities with Shipmates including lessons, sports and leisure activities. The gives Academic Juniors a unique experience to communicate and social with native speakers of English.

Each student has a personal tutor to support, encourage and celebrate. Tutors encourage students to set targets to achieve their personal best. Through praise and encouragement they help their tutor groups to see how far they have come and how much they can do if they continue to work hard.

Taunton School - Senior Course

Academic Summer School - Senior

The Senior Academic course is aimed at all those aspiring and motivated students who want to be challenged and have a deeper learning experience.

Each day in classes, students are taught three hours of intensive English with two hours of other academic subjects and we expect our students to be ambitious and willing to work hard.

Students benefit from small class sizes (maximum 10 students per class), with many of our year-round subject-specialist teachers providing the highest quality education. Students will receive 15 hours of English plus 10 hours of other academic subjects per week.

Classes focus on academic rigour and are complemented by lessons and lectures involving motivational speakers and study skills practice.

At the end of the three-week course, all students sit an external English examination leading to certification.

In the evenings, students enjoy a full and varied recreational timetable with sports and activities to complement their learning.

Excursions are seen as an integral part of the Summer School programme and are included at weekends. Our trips are designed to extend the classroom curriculum and to provide exciting and enriching cultural experiences.

The Junior Course runs similarly to the Pre-GCSE, but there is an additional half day of a local excursion. Some of these trips may include indoor and outdoor climbing, caving, water raft building, and coastal walks. There is also less homework (3-4 rather than 6 hours) and 26 hours a week for the academic timetable, rather than 30. There is a full programme of cultural visits, sports and social activities.
